Key Performance Analysis of Hydraulic Transmission Fluid (ATF)

Time : 2024-10-13    Browse : 21

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) is an important working medium for hydraulic couplings and torque converters and is widely used in automobile automatic transmission systems. Its performance directly affects transmission efficiency, lubrication effect and equipment life. So, what key characteristics should high-quality hydraulic transmission fluid have?

I. Appropriate Viscosity and Excellent Viscosity-Temperature Performance

Hydraulic transmission oil has a wide operating temperature range (-25℃~170℃), so it needs to have good low-temperature fluidity and high-temperature stability. Too low viscosity can improve transmission efficiency, but it is not conducive to lubrication and sealing; too high viscosity increases energy consumption and affects shifting smoothness. Therefore, the ideal ATF should maintain a stable viscosity at different temperatures to ensure a balance between transmission and lubrication.

II. Excellent Anti-Wear Performance

ATF needs to lubricate gears, bearings, clutches and other components to reduce wear. To this end, anti-wear agents (such as phosphorus and sulfur compounds) are usually added to form a protective film to extend the service life of components.

III. Thermal Oxidation Stability

Under high temperature conditions, oil is prone to oxidation and deterioration, producing sludge and carbon deposits. High-quality ATF needs to have antioxidant ability to ensure that it remains clean after long-term use, avoid clogging the oil circuit or affecting the response of the hydraulic system.

IV Anti-Foaming and Seal Compatibility

When running at high speed, the oil is prone to foaming, affecting the power transmission efficiency. Therefore, ATF needs to contain anti-foaming agents to reduce bubble generation. At the same time, it should be compatible with rubber seals to prevent leakage problems caused by aging or expansion.

V. Friction Property Optimization

For wet clutches, ATF needs to provide a suitable friction coefficient to ensure smooth shifting and avoid slipping or shaking.

Conclusion

The performance of hydraulic transmission oil directly affects the reliability, efficiency and life of the transmission system. With the development of automatic transmission technology and new energy hybrid systems, the requirements for ATF will be more stringent, promoting the research and development and application of higher standards of oil products.
