Installation and Alignment of Disc Coupling: Ideal State and Actual State

Time : 2019-11-27    Browse : 25

The installation and alignment of the disc pack coupling is a key link that affects its performance and the service life of the disc. There are certain differences between the ideal state and the actual operation. The specific comparison is as follows:

I. Ideal State

In the ideal installation and alignment state, the axis of the movable end (such as the motor end) and the axis of the fixed end (such as the working machine end) completely overlap and form a straight line. At this time, the projection of the end face circle of the movable end of the motor on the end face of the fixed end is a standard circle, and because the distance from the center of the movable end to the end face of the fixed end is constant, the radial deviation and axial deviation of the two half couplings are both zero. In this state, the disc only bears the stress generated by the transmitted torque, and the force is evenly applied, which can maximize its fatigue strength, effectively extend its service life, and avoid additional bending moment and stress concentration caused by axis offset.

II. Actual State

During the actual installation and alignment, it is difficult to achieve an absolute ideal state due to factors such as the installation environment and equipment accuracy. It is necessary to follow the principle of "reaching the standard within the allowable error range". The specific operation is as follows:

Error setting: First set the radial and axial allowable error ranges according to the equipment requirements. When the error generated by the alignment is within this range, it is considered qualified.

Measurement tools and steps: Fix the magnetic fixing seat, measuring rod and micrometer on the lamine coupling of the fixed end and the movable end respectively. After rotating the shaft to a specific position, clear the two micrometers and read the axial and radial readings at different positions by rotating the shaft.

Adjustment method: When aligning in the horizontal direction, there is no need to calculate the front and rear foot volume of the movable end. According to the reading of the micrometer, the movable end is directly adjusted by hitting the axis with a copper rod until the deviation is within the allowable range.

Special case handling: If the lower detection point of the pump cannot be detected, the alignment work may be limited, and the measurement method needs to be flexibly adjusted in combination with the equipment structure.

III. Comparative Analysis

The ideal state is the ultimate goal of installation alignment, which aims to ensure the optimal force on the disc; the actual state is to control the deviation within the allowable range through scientific measurement and adjustment under realistic conditions to balance the installation feasibility and equipment operation stability. The core difference between the two lies in "zero deviation" and "controllable deviation", but the ultimate goal is the same - to reduce the additional stress on the disc, ensure the reliable operation of the coupling, and extend the service life of the disc (the life of the disc is also closely related to material selection and heat treatment process).
