Causes and Prevention Strategies of High Temperature of Hydraulic Coupling

With many advantages, fluid couplings are widely used in various mechanical industries, especially in the coal mining process. It can continuously transmit during work, reduce the retention time of goods, save costs, and has a short starting time, low current, and stable operation. It is suitable for starting large inertia and heavy loads. However, during use, if the operation is not standardized, it is easy to cause the hydraulic coupling to generate high temperature and damage the equipment. Manufacturers should try to avoid it.


I. Causes of high temperature of hydraulic shaft couplings


When the scraper conveyor starts full-power operation, the internal liquid continues to heat up with the increase of power rate. If the temperature exceeds the limit, it will affect the performance of the metal skeleton and other sealing parts of the hydraulic coupling.


Under high temperature conditions, the seals in the structure of the hydraulic coupling that runs for a long time are prone to reduce efficiency, accelerate aging, and fail until failure, causing internal liquid leakage or even outflow. At the least, it will reduce the transportation efficiency of the equipment. If it continues to run for a long time, it will cause the internal structure of the hydraulic coupling to be completely scrapped.


II. Preventive measures


Fill according to regulations: Before loading the coupler, it must be filled with liquid according to the specified filling volume. The injected water is not allowed to contain solid materials such as silt and coal powder. Excessive filling will cause the transmission torque to overload and easily cause high temperature; insufficient filling will cause the transmission torque to fail to meet the design requirements, which is also easy to produce high temperature.


Replace the fusible plug in time: When the inside of the coupler is accidentally heated and the temperature rises to 110℃, the fusible plug will melt and the gas in the coupler will be discharged from the fusible plug installation hole. To prevent the fusible plug from failing, two fusible plugs are usually installed in the hydraulic coupling to avoid the coupler housing from bursting. When the fusible plug melts, the original fusible plug must be replaced immediately. If the fusible plug is used incorrectly, or even the fusible plug hole is blocked with bolts or wooden wedges, the internal temperature of the coupler will rise and the pressure cannot be relieved, which will cause damage to the oil seal, bearing damage, and even coupler rupture.
